Definition of Class

This position performs variety of duties to monitor and promote safety of students, faculty and staff. This position patrols assigned areas, secures buildings, and assists individuals to provide for safety on the University campus. The incumbent ensures that the campus buildings are locked and not violated; patrols assigned areas on foot; provides information to students, staff, and the general public; and assists in the enforcement of parking regulations; and identifies, corrects or reports to appropriate persons any actions or situations which may present a hazard to public safety, physical security, and/or public welfare in and around assigned areas.


This position's regular workdays are the Museum's open-to-the-public Tuesdays to Saturdays.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Guest and membership services: assists museum guests with information regarding the museum, exhibitions, and membership benefits.
  • Event facilitation: assists in the set up and breakdown of special events and venue rentals as needed. Is present during the duration events to monitor the galleries and assists guests.
  • Gameday parking: Monitors the parking space for reserved permit holders, directs the contracted parking attendant as needed, and is responsible for signage for reserved parking.
  • Fundraising Gala evening event support: the position assists at the annual Harvest Supper event in a support capacity. Duties include, but are not limited to, event front desk assistance and guest mobility services.
  • Conducts regular site walkarounds ('rounds') of Museum Galleries, Museum exteriors, Walton-Young House exteriors and interiors.
  • Unlocks/de-alarms Museum upon arrival and locks/sets alarm upon shift departure.
  • Sustains continual Museum galleries sight watchfulness by a mix of gallery walkthroughs and monitoring of security camera-monitors.
  • Monitors voicemail messaging and distributes messages to relevant recipients.
  • Alerts relevant staff if visitor inquiries have particular urgency, or if visitor behaviors require immediate supplemental attention.
  • Implements point-of-sale transactions in Museum Shop, when required.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

  • Patrols assigned areas of the campus.
  • Conducts security inspections of facilities and reports findings.
  • Performs tasks to ensure security of campus buildings.
  • Directs traffic and/or assists in the enforcement of parking regulations.


Minimum Education/Experience

Education:
Graduation from a standard four-year high school or equivalent (GED).


AND


Licensure:
Must have a valid driver’s license upon employment.


Must obtain and maintain CPR and first aid certification within 3 months of employment.
